21 November 2013 - Professor Jasna Omejec, President of the Croatian Constitutional Court received today H.E. Hyung-won Suh, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Croatia, who presented his credentials in April this year. They discussed issues of constitutional judiciary, which is in both countries grounded on the Austrian model so their Constitutional Courts share a lot of similarities. The Ambassador was particularly interested in the competence of the Croatian Constitutional Court in relation to international treaties. Unlike the Korean Constitutional Court, the Croatian Constitutional Court is not competent to review the constitutionality of international treaties either ratified in the Parliament or not, which was found as a shortcoming particularly in the light of the recent accession of Croatia to the EU. In the end Ambassador Suh expressed a wish for a delegation of the Croatian Constitutional Court to participate in the 3rd Congress of the World Conference on Constitutional Justice to be held in October 2013 in Seoul.
