22 May 2026 - The Joint Council on Constitutional Justice (JCCJ), as one of the bodies of the European Commission for Democracy through Law of the Council of Europe (Venice Commission), aims to steer the cooperation with the constitutional courts and equivalent bodies and to inform them about its activities in the field of constitutional justice. The 22nd annual meeting of the JCCJ members, hosted by the Croatian Constitutional Court, took place in Zagreb on 21 and 22 May 2026 and brought together liaison officers and representatives from constitutional courts to discuss key topics of cooperation, including updates on the CODICES database, the e-Bulletin on Constitutional Case-Law and co-operation activities. The liaisons also elected a new co-chair from among their ranks, Ms Vesna Božić Štajnpihler. The meeting was followed by a "mini conference" on the future of constitutional complaint mechanisms, where the participants discussed the admissibility reform and filtering mechanisms, balancing access to justice and judicial efficiency, and the sustainability of individual complaints. The JCCJ accepted a proposal from the President of the Constitutional Court of Latvia, co-chair of the JCCJ, to hold the next meeting in Riga in 2027.
