11 April 2019 - In his speech given at the opening session of the 25th "Petar Simonetti" symposium of legal professionals held in Poreč from 10 to 12 April 2019, President Šeparović first of all offered his congratulations to the organisers, the Rijeka University, Rijeka Faculty of Law, Croatian High Administrative Court and Croatian Notaries Chamber, on this important jubilee. In his speech he addressed the role of the Constitutional Court, who is, as a guardian of the Constitution, responsible for protecting the highest values of the Croatian constitutional order, and thus the property right - the very subject of this symposium - and emphasised that significant steps have been made in the protection of this right by setting the new rules for determining its concept (so to embrace also the institute of legitimate expectations) and by extending the scope of its protection (three constitutional rules for the protection of the property rights). In doing so the Constitutional Court has been guided by jurisprudence of the European Court of Human Rights, which has been interpreted in accordance with the Croatian legal tradition and culture.
