2 June 2010 - Professor Jasna Omejec, President of the Constitutional Court received today H.E. Paul Vandoren, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Croatia. Several issues were addressed at the meeting, namely: the progress and also problems in the negotiation process of the Croatian accession to the EU, especially regarding Chapter 23 (judiciary and fundamental human rights); the jurisdiction and the workings of the Croatian Constitutional Court as well as the lack of jurisdiction in several matters and finally the necessity of the new legal framework which will enable the Court to efficiently perform its duties stipulated in the Constitution. Ambassador Vandoren proposed that President Omejec addresses members of the diplomatic corps accredited in the Republic of Croatia, so to continue the dialogue commenced in 2008. It was only than that the Constitutional Court introduced to the international community its activities and organisation as well as the role of constitutional judiciary in the legal order of the Republic of Croatia.
