Particular attention was paid to establishing standards for eliminating judges who are not capable to render politically independent decisions as well as to qualifying the notion "highly respected jurist".
The conclusion of the Conference was that political influence cannot be completely eliminated from the election procedure, but that the procedure must entail the requirements for independent and impartial performance of duties of the Constitutional Court judges.
Croatia was at the Conference represented by Dr Teodor Antić, Secretary General of the Croatian Constitutional Court, who introduced the participants to the election procedure of the Constitutional Court judges in Croatia.
