14 October 2024 - Judges of the Ukrainian ordinary courts and representatives of the National School of Judges of Ukraine visited the Constitutional Court today as part of their stay in Croatia organised by the Council of Europe. Namely, with a view of the military aggression against their country, the Ukrainian national authorities have been working to ensure compensation to the victims of the war. Among these efforts, the National School of Judges of Ukraine has set up a working group to develop a training course for judges on legal remedies and redress mechanisms for war affected individuals. The members of the working group are visiting Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina to gain relevant experience. Judge Dr Snježana Bagić received the colleagues from Ukraine and presented the jurisprudence of the Croatian Constitutional Court on the compensation for war damages incurred during the Homeland War in Croatia from 1991 to 1995, as well as the mechanism of the state responsibility for damage caused by terrorist acts through cases not only of abstract control of war and post-war legislation, but also of individual control through a constitutional complaint.
