24 January 2025 - At the invitation of Dr Imre Juhász, President of the Hungarian Constitutional Court, Dr Mato Arlović, Deputy President, took part in the celebrations marking the 35th anniversary of the Constitutional Court of Hungary. The international conference held to mark the occasion on 23 January in the Upper House of the Hungarian Parliament brought together almost 400 guests who discussed the challenges faced by the constitutional courts in their daily work. Dr Tamás Sulyok, President of the Republic and László Kövér, Speaker of the Upper House, together with Dr Imre Juhász, President of the Hungarian Constitutional Court and Gianni Buquicchio, Honorary President of the Venice Commission, gave introductory speeches. The main topic of the conference "Life Cycles in the Operation of Constitutional Courts - Challenges and Responses" was divided into three sections dealing with the role of constitutional courts in the functioning of legal systems, the impact of the EU accession on constitutional adjudication and the impact of exceptional or emergency situations on the protection of fundamental rights.
