Former President of the Constitutional Tribunal of Chile visited the Constitutional Court

16 September 2024 - Dr Mato Arlović, Deputy President, received in a curtesy call Mr Cristan Letelier Aguilar, former President of the Constitutional Tribunal of Chile, accompanied by Andrés Lamoliatte, Minister Counsellor at the Embassy of Chile to Croatia. In a very friendly meeting they exchanged experiences on the jurisdiction of the two Courts in a view of the existing differences in the legal systems. For example, the Chilean Constitutional Tribunal is competent for the a priori constitutional review, while their system does not recognise the institute of constitutional complaint. They also discussed the election of constitutional court judges, who in Chile are elected for a mandate of nine years and cannot be re-elected.

At the end, they emphasised the excellent cooperation between the two countries at all levels and at the same time expressed the willingness to start with some kind of cooperation between the two courts as well.
